Philadelphia boxer, Tevin Farmer lost his IBF Super Featherweight Title on Thursday in Miami.

Joseph “Jo Jo” Diaz (31-1, 15 KOs) bested Farmer (30-5-1, 6 KOs) by unanimous decision to claim the IBF strap.

“He put up a hell of a fight,” said Farmer. “That’s all I can say. I messed my hand up in the first round, you could probably tell. But he fought a hell of a fight. I couldn’t use my jab the way I wanted. There’s no excuses though. He capitalized on the injury. He must have seen it and that’s what champions do.”

Farmer was in line to face undefeated two-time super featherweight world champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (23-0, 22 KOs).

After defending his WBA Super Featherweight World Championship with a second-round technical knockout of mandatory challenger Ricardo Núñez on July 27th, Davis called out Farmer.

“I had the WBA belt and I had the IBF belt,” said the undefeated Davis. “Tevin Farmer fought tonight. I want Tevin. That’s a fight that can be made. Let’s get it on later this year.”

Since then, Davis successfully moved up to 135 pounds and won the WBA Lightweight Title with a 12th round knockout of former unified champion Yuriorkis Gamboa (30-3, 18 KOs) on December 28th.

The Mayweather Promotions star is considered the heir apparent to the Mayweather throne. Now that Farmer lost his belt, he might have to regain it to make the fight come into fruition.

“We will do this again,” said Farmer. “I want the immediate rematch (with Diaz). I hope we can do it in April or May, or whenever the team decided to run it back.”
