Knicks owner James Dolan is not the favorite son of New York City right now.

During the teams 127-106 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on January 29th, there was a loud “sell the team” chant at Madison Square Garden.

The Knicks fell to 13-36 and will miss the playoffs for the seventh straight season. They’ve won only one playoff series since they reached the 2000 Eastern Conference Finals.

Today, Knicks fired President Steve Mills. General manager Scott Perry is taking over basketball operations. However, Mills is expected to become a board member for MSG’s standalone sports company.

“Steve and I have come to the decision that it would be best for him to leave his role as president of the New York Knicks,” James Dolan said in a statement. “We thank Steve for his many years of service to our organization and look forward to continuing our relationship with him as part of our board.”

The Knicks is the crown jewel of New York, however, the Brooklyn Nets have stolen the glamour in recent years. Fans are hoping that a James Dolan sale would empower the Knicks to get better draft picks, trades and overall new energy for the organization.
