According to a coronavirus update on the National Football League Player’s Association website, there are 59 players who have tested positive for COVID-19, significantly lower than the 95 positive cases originally reported.
The original number reflected the number of people from all teams, including staffers, who tested positive for the virus. The number is also reflective of the number of positive cases reported since the pandemic became public four months ago and does not reflect the number of players who currently have the coronavirus.
With the number of people being tested from the NFL, the NFLPA is expecting the numbers to rise into the hundreds. “With players and staff starting to report and get tested, there’s the expectation that the number of positive tests will be in the hundreds,” said an NFLPA source.
Teams must have their Infectious Disease Emergency Response plans approved before they are allowed to let more than 20 players into a team facility.
