Memphis’ Anchor
It looks like the cat is out of the bag for who will be the NBA’s Defensive Player Of The Year Award winner. The man who will be the winner resides in Memphis, Chris Vernon reveals.
Marc Gasol was the anchor at the center position for Lionel Hollins’ ball club who held their opponents to an average of 89.5 points per game. Much like last year when Tyson Chandler took home the award his stats didn’t scream defensive player of the year but his intangibles off the stat sheet did. Gasol averaged 7.8 rebounds, 1.7 blocks, and 1.0 steals per game, not tremendous stats but like I said before it’s his off the stat sheet plays that won him this award.
Congratulations to Marc Gasol.
